Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire pub group Dodo Pub Co. is marking Veganuary with two new dishes – the Viva La Vegan pizza and Tofu or Not Tofu? burger.
The pizza features crushed tomato, fresh basil, pesto Genovese, sun-dried tomato, rocket and pine nuts.
The burger has been made using tofu marinated in soya buttermilk, and is cooked to a crispy texture with spicy slaw, chipotle mayo, pickled cucumber and lettuce.
These two vegan dishes join items on the existing plant-based menu including the Simply Red pizza, the Clean and Green salad bowl, the avocado gem side salad with radish and house dressing, vegan rosemary fries and sweet potato fries with smoky sea salt.
“Veganuary aims to reduce the suffering of animals by inspiring and supporting people across the globe to go vegan for a month,” comments Leo Johnson, one of the founding members of Dodo Pub Co.
“It’s got to be worth giving a go. We love getting creative in the kitchen and reckon our newest vegan creations are so good, people won’t see giving up meat as a hardship at all.
“Our tofu burger is a bit of a question to our customers on whether or not they’re up for giving vegan a go – be it for a day a week or the whole month. We’re keen to know what food fans think – we hope plenty of foodies will want to get involved.”
The new dishes will be served across the three pub sites: The Rusty Bicycle and The Rickety Press in Oxford and The Bottle of Sauce, Cheltenham until the end of the month.
