Newcastle welcomes new Cuban bar

Castro’s will open its doors this month, following slight delays caused by the recent ‘pingdemic’.

Castro's, a new Cuban-inspired bar from The Vaulkhard Group, will open its doors this month, following slight delays caused by the recent 'pingdemic'.

The group’s new venture was originally set to open its doors mid-July in Newcastle city centre, but will now be ready for trade from Wednesday 25 August.

“The pingdemic has been another hit for the hospitality industry," says Ollie Vaulkhard, director of the Vaulkhard Group. "With the majority of our staff having to self-isolate, it’s been impossible for us to launch Castro’s and deliver the best experience we know we can. The region wants to support local businesses, and we in the industry now have a duty to provide safe, enjoyable experiences. We know Castro’s will be a very welcome addition to the heart of Newcastle city centre."

The venue will offer Latin-inspired food, drink and cocktails at its location on Hood Street, formerly the Beeronomy site, which The Vaulkhard Group purchased from Newcastle Building Society.

Over the last three months, Harry Vaulkhard and the Vaulkhard Leisure team have been creating what they believe to be Newcastle’s first authentic independent Cuban bar, complete with the north east's largest rum collection.

The Vaulkhard Group recently announced a string of acquisitions, taking on ownership of popular drinking venues such as Bridge Tavern and Town Wall, at the same time dispensing of late-night venues Perdu and MSA.
