National Burger Awards 2023 opens for entries

Pub chefs can now enter the 2023 National Burger Awards.

Entries to the 2023 National Burger Awards are now open, with pub and bar chefs invited to submit their ultimate burger recipe.

The event will showcase the very best burgers the industry has to offer, with participants taking part in a live cook-off to be in with a chance of winning the coveted National Burger of the Year title.

Finalists on the day will take part in a Signature round, judged by a panel of industry experts, as well as creating a Technical Burger made up from a specific selection of ingredients supplied by event sponsors. Competitors must also whip up their very best Meat-Free Burger in a round sponsored by The Vegetarian Butcher.

This year's Signature winner will claim the crown from reigning champion Danny Hawke of Danny's Burgers in Bristol. The chef won over an esteemed panel of industry judges at the UK-wide event with The Beef Chucky 2.0, featuring a 50-day dry aged beef blend, dry aged ex-dairy chuck roll, Kerrymaid American cheese, a beer cheese sauce, Kühne sliced dill pickles, mustard, candied jalapeños and fresh white onions, encased in a seeded brioche bun

"Burgers remain a firm favourite dish across the UK and the world, storming the street food scene and still growing at rapid pace through the rise of takeaway and delivery services," says Genna Ash-Brown, editor of Dine Out, which runs the awards.

“We are chuffed to be bringing the National Burger Awards to Islington Metalworks for another year, and can't wait to showcase the most outstanding creations this incredible industry has to offer. Last year's competition will be pretty hard to beat, so be sure to bring your game face and a healthy appetite – this is one you won't want to miss!"

Entries close on Friday 30 December, with the live final taking place at London's Islington Metalworks in February (date TBC).
