Greggs opens the doors to its first ever pub

High street bakery brand Greggs has entered the pub market.

Sausage roll and pint enthusiasts have reason to celebrate, following the news that high street bakery brand Greggs has entered the pub market.

As part of a collaboration with department store Fenwick, The Golden Flake Tavern launched in September inside Fenwick Newcastle site.

This marks the latest chapter in a series of partnerships between two north east brands, following on from Bistro Greggs in December 2023, which served a multi-course menu of Greggs fine-dining interpretations, and the Greggs Champagne Bar in 2024, which saw 8,000 guests enjoy a Sausage Roll paired with a glass of Champagne throughout the nine-week experience.

"Following the reaction and success of our previous collaborations with Fenwick, we’re thrilled to be launching our third landmark venture together," says Hannah Squirrell, customer director at Greggs. "The Golden Flake Tavern brings a fresh twist to the traditional British pub experience, and we hope everyone who joined us before, along with many new faces, will come along to enjoy this unique Greggs experience."

What makes a Greggs pub?

Greggs says The Golden Flake Tavern "promises a quintessential British pub experience reimagined" with a signature menu featuring a Greggs twist.

The menu features 15 Greggs-inspired traditional pub dishes, curated by Fenwick executive head Chef Mark Reid. Dishes include Chicken Bake Parmo, Steak Bake Mixed Grill, Sausage Roll & Mash, Greggs Ploughman’s Platter, A Taste of the Golden Flake, Yum Yum Bread & Butter Pudding and Pink Jammie Trifle.

Every Sunday, Greggs and Fenwick will present a twist on the traditional Sunday carvery where customers at The Golden Flake Tavern can choose from a Steak Bake, Chicken Bake or Cheese & Onion Bake as the centerpiece of their roast.

Alongside a Greggs-inspired cocktail menu, The Golden Flake Tavern will also be pouring two exclusive Greggs-inspired beers on draft: The Pink Jammie Pale Ale and the Gosforth 1939 Stottie Lager.
