Thornbridge to open flagship bar in Sheffield
Thornbridge & Co is readying its next venue, The Fargate.
Sheffield city centre will soon welcome the arrival of The Fargate, a new flagship bar from brewer and pub operator Thornbridge & Co.
Named after its setting, The Fargate joins other Thornbridge & Co’s venues the Market Cat in York, Bankers Cat in Leeds and The Colmore in Birmingham. Doors will officially open on 22 October.
The new venue brings together the look of the former Yorkshire Bank (previously the Yorkshire Penny Savings Bank) with a newly designed pub interior.
It will feature dark polished wood, leather seating, herringbone floors, brass accents, chandeliers and curated artwork.
At its heart is a horseshoe bar serving 10 cask ales, half of them Thornbridge, as well as 16 draft beer lines. The ground floor also features screened booths, a snug and banquette seating.
"The Fargate is on track to become a defining feature of Sheffield’s pub scene, thanks to a large investment in its unique design," says Jamie Hawksworth, Thornbridge & Co director. "We’re delighted to help shape the vibrant new era of the city centre."
Stairway to pizza
A spiral staircase leads to the first floor, where a pizza kitchen with an Italian corner oven takes centre stage, visible through glazed screens.
The design combines reclaimed timber walls, decorated ceilings and original architectural details.
Seating includes both leather banquettes and benches, with views across Fargate and towards Sheffield’s City Hall.
"We’re eager to open our doors to the people of Sheffield and contribute to the continued growth and character of the area," adds Simon Webster, CEO of Thornbridge.
