Heartwood pubs with rooms keep on coming

Heartwood has opened The Royal Forest in Essex.

The Royal Forest in Essex has opened its doors, marking the fifth launch of a Heartwood Inns pub with rooms.

The pub, which has 28 boutique bedrooms, has received a multi-million pound refurbishment from the Richard Ferrier-led business, creating a venue with 90 bar seats and dining spaces with a further 128 covers.

Since securing £100m of funding in summer 2023, Heartwood has been relaunching pubs and acquiring freeholds at pace.

"We are delighted to have been able to bring what is a much loved landmark back to life," says Ferrier. "We are really excited to be welcoming locals through our door as well as showcasing what Epping Forest has to offer for those visiting from further afield."

More about The Royal Forest

The Royal Forest is an historic public house, designed by architect Edmond Egan, which first opened in 1880 as The Forest Hotel and subsequently renamed The Royal Forest in 1882 following a visit by Queen Victoria.

The inn is located on the edge of Epping Forest, the largest open space in London, and is located next to the Elizabethan Hunting Lodge, frequented by Elizabeth I during the hunting season.

Downstairs, guests can enjoy a range of spaces from 'the Library' with a woodburning stove to the 'Forest Room' with a view of the forest outside.
